Kimironko Market Kigali is a regular stop on our Kigali City Tour. It’s the biggest and busiest local market in Kigali and a great way to see daily life in Rwanda. Located near the Kimironko bus station, the market is full of activity, with locals buying fruits, vegetables, clothes, fabrics, and household items.
The market has four entrances, and each section offers something different. One side has household goods and plastic items, another has colorful kitenge fabrics, one is filled with meat and fish vendors, and another area is for second-hand clothes and seamstresses who can sew custom outfits quickly.
Kimironko Market in Kigali is known for its wide selection of products. Farmers bring fresh fruits and vegetables from all over Rwanda. You’ll see bananas, passion fruit, mangoes, avocados, potatoes, and green plantains, as well as spices, garlic, and ginger. There are also dried and fresh fish, meats, and leafy greens. Prices vary depending on the item and vendor, but our guide will help you understand costs and assist with translation or bargaining if needed.
Many visitors enjoy shopping for souvenirs here. You can find handmade baskets, jewelry, wooden spoons, and other crafts. The kitenge section is especially popular. These fabrics come from across Africa, including Rwanda, DRC, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Most fabric vendors are women who can direct you to nearby tailors for quick and affordable sewing services.
Kimironko Market is usually busiest in the early afternoon, especially on Mondays and Saturdays. Sundays can be a bit slower, as many vendors take the day off. The market is open daily from around 8:00am to 6:00pm.
There is also a section of the market dedicated to fresh eggs, run by a long-time vendor known for her friendly service. Butchers work nearby, as well as other animal produce vendors. The market is big but well-organized. Items are grouped by type, so it’s easy to find your way around.

After visiting the market, you can grab a quick bite from nearby food stalls. Many serve chapatti, samosas, and sodas, which is a good way to take a break.
Kimironko Market is included in our full-day Kigali City Tour, along with the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Nyamirambo Women’s Center, and Inema Art Gallery. This combination gives you a full picture of Rwanda’s culture, history, and daily life.
