Detailed itinerary for 5 days Congo Gorilla Trek & Nyiragongo Volcano Hike
Day 1: Airport transfer in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will go through custom and immigration, and you will be met by our company guide who will warmly welcome you to the Land of a thousand hills that Rwanda is know of, a later drive to your booked hotel accommodation for dinner and overnight stay at hotel. Day 2: Transfer to Congo for your adventure experience. Travel time +3 hrs.
After having your early morning breakfast, jump off to the jeep and start our drive to Congo with great view of the countryside, known for its 1000 hills, arrive at Grande Barriere border crossing at 10:30am and ensure check-in with Virunga tourism office by 11:15am. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control.
Guests will receive gorilla and volcano trek permits at check-in which must be presented at the start of each trek. Once check-in is complete, visitors will be transported to Kibumba for your overnight stay. Meal Plan: Full board.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking experience
After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will head down the hill to meet their Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek. Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, trekkers will make their way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching. Day 4: Nyiragongo Volcano hike adventure
After breakfast in Kibumba, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post at 8:15 am, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival to Kibati, guests will receive a briefing and will have the opportunity to hire porters. The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours, with beautiful scenic view of nature, as you share wonderful stories with the guide, taking a lovely hike up the volcanoes and trekkers will overnight on the summit, with a great stunning view of the burning larva. Virunga is an Oasis of hope, not only for the region, but also for Africa and for whole nature of our planet. In the middle of this a churning pit of lava. You can’t help but gawp at the sight of it. A place not of this Earth, right here on Earth. Meal Plan: Full board.
Day 5: Descend Nyiragongo Volcano and Transfer to Kigali
In the early morning, guests will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. Average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere. Later cross the border back to Rwanda and transferred to Kigali to catch up with you evening flight back home. End of service! Meal Plan: Full board.
