Detailed itinerary for 9 days Rwanda Uganda, Congo and Burundi
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Arrival in Kigali check in at Chez Lando Hotel and relax to get ready for the next day of the safari. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 2: Kigali city tour and transfer to Bwindi National Park
After breakfast, Kigali City tour: The City tour includes a visit to Gisozi genocide memorial. In the afternoon, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Camp Lodge
Day 3: Trekking Gorillas in Bwindi
In the morning after breakfast, we head to the Bwindi National Park Headquarters where we will be allocated groups of gorillas to be visited. The gorilla trekking will lead you through Bwindi Mountain Forest, and this may take 1-4 hours. The maximum time to spend with the gorillas is one hour. After the trekking, we drive back to Gisenyi for overnight at Paradise Malahide Hotel.
Day 4: Nyiragongo Trekking- Ascending
After early breakfast, Transfer to la Grande Barriere (Rwanda- DRC border) and cross the border by 7:00 and check-in at the Virunga Tourism Office by 8:00. Afterward, drive to Kitabi ranger post, the starting point of the Nyiragongo trek; the ascent starts at around 10:00 and you would reach the summit at around 5:00 P.M. Overnight at the crater.
Day 5: Nyiragongo Trekking- Descending
After early breakfast, start descending Nyiragongo at 6:00 A.M. Once at the bottom, drive back to La Grande Barriere and cross the border to return to Gisenyi. After check-in at the hotel, enjoy a walking city tour in Gisenyi. Overnight at Paradise Malahide Hotel.
Day 6: Historical & Cultural Visit
After breakfast, transfer to Nyanza King’s Palace, located at 88 km south of Kigali city. This was the residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa and the Royal Palace that was traditionally built and this Palace offers a detailed look into Rwandan traditional seat of their monarchy. It is an impressive museum, restored to its 19th-century state. It is made entirely with traditional materials. The visit will continue to Butare Ethnographic Museum, formerly the National Museum of Rwanda. Overnight at Matter Boni Consili Hotel.
Day 7: Transfer to Bujumbura
After breakfast, transfer to Bujumbura– arrival around 12:00. After check-in at the hotel, visit: Albert’s crocodiles; slam Culture Centre; The Explorers Memorial, a huge rock in the Suburbs of Bujumbura commemorating the meeting between explorers Livingstone & Stanley; Independence hero mausoleum & Unity monument, Belvedere Hill offering a nice of Lake Tanganyika and the city. Enjoy a Tuk-Tuk tour on the shores of Lake Tanganyika Relax at the beach Overnight at Safari Gate Hotel.
Day 8: Full Day Tour: Source of Nile
In the morning after the breakfast, we will head to Kerala waterfalls for hiking for the source of River Nile
Day 9: Fly from Bujumbura
After breakfast, enjoy a morning boat trip to Rusizi National Park to explore closer the hippos and birds in Lake Tanganyika before transfer to the airport.
