Nyungwe National Park is a large rainforest in the southwest of Rwanda. Many people visit Nyungwe for chimpanzee trekking, hiking, birdwatching, and walking on the famous canopy walkway. In 2025, the park added two new activities: the zipline and the rope course. These activities give visitors a chance to explore the forest in a fun and active way. The Nyungwe zipline lets you fly across the forest while attached to a strong rope. You move quickly from one side of the valley to the other, high above the trees. The rope course is a series of steps, swings, and small bridges up in the trees. You walk across them slowly, using your balance.
The zip line and rope course are open to people aged six years and above. To join, you must weigh at least 20 kilograms and not more than 100 kilograms. All visitors must wear closed shoes and comfortable clothes. These activities are not suitable for people with heart conditions or those who are afraid of heights. Professional guides will help with the equipment and safety instructions. The activities are open every day from 9:00am to 4:00pm, with the last group starting at 3:00pm. Everything takes place at Uwinka Reception Centre, the main entrance point inside Nyungwe National Park. If you are planning to do other activities like the canopy walkway or hiking trails, it is better to arrive early in the day so you can fit in multiple experiences.
For the 2025 – 2026 season, the cost of the Nyungwe zip line is 100 US dollars for international visitors. Foreign residents and African nationals (excluding East Africa) pay 80 US dollars, while Rwandan and East African Community citizens pay 20,000 Rwandan Francs. The Nyungwe rope course costs 35 US dollars for international visitors, 20 US dollars for foreign residents and Africans, and 10,000 Rwandan Francs for Rwandans and East Africans. You can also book a combination of the Nyungwe zip line and the canopy walkway for 125 US dollars as an international visitor, 100 US dollars for foreign residents, and 23,000 Rwandan Francs for locals.
