Cave Exploration Safari Rwanda, opened up for tourism in 2004, by the Rwanda Tourism Board, Musanze cave has become one of the hot spots for tourism especially afternoon visit after gorilla tracking activity. Musanze is also the largest district within the northern province of Rwanda and its capital Ruhengeri, which is also known as Musanze, and it serves as a center for tourism in Rwanda and its where Volcanoes National Park is situated. The caves have existed for over 65 million years, and they have 31 entrances and extend up to 21 kilometers inside. Though today they’re a tourist attraction, the caves were used as a shelter during wartime for many centuries leading right up into the modern era, and as such, it’s an important site to local people. The musanze caves offered home to many people as well as storage of supplies and food by the kings of Rwanda during the war time. The exploration lasts for two hours and visitors pay $50. It can be done in the afternoon with an escort. Other caves include the Busasamana caves which are located one kilometer and links up to many other caves such as Kazenze, Mudende and Busasamana regions.
